“Spaces between us” is an exploration where the past merges with the present, the “space” of what surrounded myself growing up and who I am today. As a child, I was surrounded by architecture that shaped my memories, from plain walls to bridges I crossed every day; these spaces became my world. As humans, we tend to form deeper memories when information is tied to a physical space, as these principles play an important role in the human consciousness and how we store memories.
Throughout history, human experience has been expressed through many different mediums, such as language, music, and art, but one of the most concrete pieces of evidence is architecture. It is where we reflect on who we’ve been, from the earliest cave writing the towering
skyscrapers. One often says, human language is an architecture of thought that is layered with influences and intentions. As culture lies in language, specifically sentence structure, letters form words, words form sentences, just as reflected in architecture: individual brick form buildings and turns understanding into reality.
